The girls had a rough finish to the preseason, dropping two games over the Christmas break. The team attendance over the break was disappointing, so both Junior Varsity games had to be canceled. The Varsity is down to 8 girls, so they definitely have to focus on being in shape and not getting into foul trouble during District play. The coaching team is confident in these 8 girls and are looking for a good run starting Friday night, January 5, 2024. The Lady Pirates finished the preseason 16-7 and with the schedule they played, the coaches are very proud of the girls, and they have been prepared for the upcoming competition. The team would rather take these losses earlier rather than later when it counts.
The Varsity girls lost to Jourdanton 56-54 on December 29, 2023. The team had not played since December 15th, and it showed. They just didn’t look at themselves on the court. The girls shot 19/55 from the floor and 13/24 from the free throw line. they struggled with 21 turnovers.

The Varsity girls took the court again on January 2, 2024, and had a tough loss to San Marcos 73-38. Coach Wilson stated "I cannot remember the last time we lost that badly in the last 3 years." The girls struggled offensively, shooting 12/32. They just could not find a rhythm. The team has to get everyone involved offensively and focus on defensive.

The girls will be back to work today, January 3, 2024, focusing on one game at a time. They will take the court again on Friday night, January 5, 2024, here in Lytle to take on Natalia in our first District game of 2024. Junior Varsity plays at 5pm and Varsity takes the court at 6:30pm. The coaching staff looks for leadership from our three Senior Captains, Calyssa, Katara and Amelia. Let’s Go!
