The first week of December, the Pirates went 1-1 for the week. Yes, the young Pirates are no longer undefeated. Last Monday, December 4, 2023, the Pirates took on a very good Pearsall team and lost 75-50. The Mavericks shot 90 plus percent in the first quarter, meaning they only missed 1-2 shots the entire quarter. At that point the score was 24-11 and the young Pirates could not recover. It was just one of those nights where everything went right for Pearsall. It was the first loss of the season, but one needed to keep the Pirates humble and hungry as we move through the basketball season.

The Pirates faced Kenedy High School on Friday, December 8, 2023, and won 63-48. The Pirates started out slow, but I've learned that the 23-24 Pirates play at a different pace and no matter the adversity, they find a way to win. The Pirates were led offensively by Chase Guevara scoring 17 points and the double-double machine, freshman Seth pierce, scoring 16 points and grabbing over ten rebounds. The night went to Senior Brando Obando in my opinion. During the 4th quarter, Brandon's energy and hard work put the game away. He had 5 deflections, 4 steals, and 4 points to help secure the lead and the win. His hard work and energy on the defensive side won't show on the stats, but it was the missing piece in the 4th quarter to finish off the Kenedy Lions.

The Pirates are now 10-1 on the season, ranked 25th in the state by TABC.

Shout out to the LADY PIRATES who are now ranked 6th in the state by TABC. Good job ladies.
