The Lytle Pirate Cross Country traveled to Crystal City for their District 28-3A Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Due to the rain the day before, the course was flooded, and different arrangements had to be made. We had to find a new venue around Crystal City High School and that changed the course to a shorter and all-pavement race. This was not the best situation, but the team took it in stride, adjusted and performed the way we had hoped they would. This group worked hard all year and it showed in all their performances and I was very proud of their efforts.
The Varsity Boys started the day with a dominant performance, taking the top 6 spots with Brandon Obando taking the District Individual title and leading the team to the District team title. All 7 runners finished in the top 10 and all came home with 2 medals.
The Varsity Girls also had all 6 girls finish in the top 10 with Frances Scotello being crowned District Individual Champion and the girls also took the team title.
The Junior Varsity Girls only had 4 runners, so they could not qualify as a team, but they did finish 1st-4th and Isabella Sewell was the Individual District Champion.
The Junior Varsity Boys also had a PERFECT SCORE as they took the top 6 spots, with Lucas Salazar being Crowned District Champion and the team winning the District Title.
The team is now preparing for the Regional Meet on October 23, 2023 in Corpus and hope we can return to the State Meet.
