Last night the JV boys traveled to Devine for a district game vs. the Warhorses. Once again we had issues getting off to a good start and trailed 10-14 at the end of the 1st quarter. We stuck to our frantic defensive pressure and took control of the game and outscored Devine by 20 in the quarter and had the halftime lead 34-23. Devine found their rhythm in the 3rd quarter and foul trouble hurt us and at the end of the 3rd quarter we only led by 5 points.
The 4th quarter saw both teams battle hard, with several lead changes throughout the period and we had to deal with 2 starters fouling out of the ball game. It was time for bench players to come in and step up as their numbers were called. Devine was able to take their last lead of the game with under 10 seconds in the game and the Pirates had one last chance to take the lead and the victory. After a timeout all 5 players on the court ran our out of bounds play with perfection as Zach Rodriguez found Paul Tomlinson for a pass inside the paint and Paul sank an easy layup with 1.1 seconds on the clock and we secured a huge win - 61 Lytle, 60 Devine.
It was a wonderful environment to be a part of, as our community of parents, grandparents, friends, teachers and coaches came out in support of these young men and we thank everyone for their presence at the game.
The Pirates were led in scoring by Logan Wilson ( 24 points), Giovanni Flores-Garza ( 13 points) and Jaron Calderon ( 12 points), we also had key contributions off the bench from Zach Rodriguez, Paul Tomlinson, Adam Castro and David Weitzel.
We next play Carrizo Springs next Tuesday at home at 5 pm.
