Over the weekend the Lady Pirates traveled to Dilley to participate in the 15th Annual Dilley Wolves Softball Tournament. Over the course of 5 games, there were outstanding performances all around from each individual that turned into favorable team outcomes. We started the weekend off on Friday with 3 games against Crystal City (won 6-5), Cotulla (won 11-1), and finished off the day vs. Poth (won 5-2). Throughout the duration of those 3 games, the team accounted for 0 errors, which has been our nemesis for the 1st half of the season, and accounted for 22 runs scored! This gave us momentum heading into the final day of the tourney (Saturday). Facing off vs. Floresville for a chance to advance to the Championship Game, the ladies continued right where they left to begin an overcast and misty day with another strong performance and a win, 9-2. Shyane Barnhill was on top of her game throughout the weekend on the mound for the Pirates, and also helped herself out accounting for 2 back-to-back home runs in the semi-final game. Sam Dear was a wall at the short stop position along with being hot at the plate easily accumulating a weekend batting average of over .450, along with Eleni Keith making great efforts in doing everything she could to get every ball thrown her way at 1st base. These 3 fantastic ladies earned All-Tourney.
Heading into the final game of the tournament, the championship game vs. Somerset, Lytle got off to a quick start gaining the lead 4-0 heading into the 3rd inning, but errors, miscommunication, and energy seemed to be the difference as the Bulldogs defeated the Pirates 9-4.
With the Lady Pirates finishing 2nd place overall, this weekend proved to show what our potential could be and something we needed prior to us beginning our district schedule next week (03/13) against Devine.
We continue to face another obstacle that we can turn into an opportunity tomorrow night vs. Poteet here at home (JV 5pm/Varsity 7pm).
Thanks to all of you for the continued support!
