This past weekend, your Lady Pirates softball team traveled to Alice on Saturday to face off against the Cuero Lady Gobblers in Game 2 of the playoff series; with a possible Game 3 if needed immediately following.

Unfortunately, it may have been the long 2 1/2 hour bus ride that somehow we couldn't get our feet underneath us the entire game, as your Lady Pirates fell to the Lady Gobblers, 18-1; which put an end to our season.

From the get go, Cuero got off to an early 6-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning where they didn't seem to let off the gas peddle any time throughout the game. With an accumulation of 10+ errors on the day, it's tough to come back from a deficit of against a state powerhouse team.

Our bats did come alive in the bottom of the 4th inning, when we were able to bring a run across to cut the lead to 9-1, when Jalyn Aguinaga started us off with a single to left, then Mariah Amador with a beautiful single up the middle which allowed Jalyn to safely make it into 3rd base. That gave Shyane Barnhill an opportunity, as she hit a line drive shot to center field scoring Aguinaga for the 1st and only run of the ball game for the Lady Pirates.

With the ups and downs, adversity faced, and numerous mountains that had to be climbed this year, it turned out to be a very successful season for our program.

It's tough losing a core group (6 seniors) of your team heading into the following season, but with the exposure multiple underclassmen got to witness and be a part of this season, it sets us up for something special for next year! It won't be seen as a rebuilding year, but a reloading year heading into the Spring of 2019.

Thanks to y'all for the continued support this season, and be sure to congratulate this fine young ladies on a remarkable season.
