The Lytle Varsity football team travelled to Dilley on Friday, September 21st to take on the Wolves in the last pre-district game of the 2018 football season. Once again, the Pirates started the game slowly on offense. Penalties and a few missed assignments contributed to the offense not scoring in the first half. Special Teams and defense picked up the slack holding the Wolves to 6 first half points. At halftime, the Pirates regrouped and came out running on offense. Both Nakia Givens and Kannon Hunter racked up 150+ yards each on the ground. Exchange student Ronan Galpin scored his first touchdown of the year as well. Defense continued to hold the Wolves to 6 points and generate turnovers which help with momentum. Both Mark Cantu and Thomas Dominguez had interceptions. Special Teams added 4 points by way of Jaron Calderon (kicking extra points for the first time on varsity). The credit for the offensive success goes to the offensive line. Javier and Victor Garcia, Robey Harold (who RAN DOWN the punt returner preventing a touchdown), Kody Villarreal, and Caleb Rollins paved the way for 400+ yards in the running game.

The boys believed they could win in the second half, despite being down a touchdown. They responded and then some. Also, with great performances were, Rylan Wagner, Joseph Perez, Garrett Ralph, Zachary Yanez, and Vincent Casanova.

We are away this week at Cotulla on Friday. Game time is 7:30 PM. This is the 1st district game. Come out and enjoy a night of Pirate football!  Go Pirates!
