Your Lytle_XC team traveled to Corpus Christi early Saturday to participate in the Islander Splash and get a preview of what it will be like in a month at Regionals. We had some setbacks with an early start, the early morning rain on the way down there, most of our kids coming back late the night before,…things that we will not have to deal with on October 22nd, but will definitely help us later on.
We had participants in 6 of the 8 races with Clarissa Cantu starting us off by literally getting off the bus and having 15 minutes of warm-up for the Large School 5K race and still managed to finish 28 out of 252 runners.
The Varsity boys ran the race after, in the Large School division and managed to finish 14th out of 37 teams despite a subpar performance by one of our runners. We didn’t have great finishes but started to address that this morning and hope to have better finishes on Wednesday in Devine.
For the JV girls, we had 4 participants with Jazmine Ortega leading the group finishing 43rd, Mariana Verdeja 85th, Alize Sanchez 144th, and Raven Perez 178th out of 228 runners.
For the JV boys, we had 9 participants with Ryan Gomez coming in at 63rd and helping the team finish 10th out of 18 teams.
In the Medium/Small school girls division, which is the division most of our opponents in the region competed in, we had 2 participants. Freshman Allison Marshall in her first varsity race finished 151st and Monique Covarrubias 202nd out of 303 runners.
For the Medium/Small school boys we had 6 runners with Malakai Garza leading the way to a 33rd place finish and helped the team place 15th out of 37 teams.
We have 2 weeks till district and 3 meets left with one this Wednesday in Devine, Saturday at Round rock and finish next Wednesday at Bandera before our district meet here in Lytle on October 9th.
