This past Tuesday night your varsity boys' basketball team played host to the TMI Panthers. The Pirates started the game with a relentless press dominating the 1st quarter defensively holding TMI to only 10 points. Some foul trouble held the pirates from pressing the entire second quarter but managed to carry a 36-23 lead into halftime. Offensively, Jorge Holguin led the Pirates in the 1st half with 15 points. The second half, however, was a different story, it became a slow, boring pace due to the refs taking over and calling foul after foul on both sides. Both teams seemed frustrated and neither team could find a rhythm in the final two quarters. For a while, it looked like free throws would ultimately decide the game. After a few timeouts and a 12-2 run by TMI in the second half, the Pirates fought through the adversity and ground out a 69-61 win over TMI. High scorers were Jorge Holguin with 26 points, Jociah Cruzzi with 16 points, while Robert Ibarra hit some big shots in key moments to finish with 11 points. Two other players that stepped up to have big moments were John Martinez who scored 8 straight points in the 3rd quarter to help the Pirates keep the lead and Paul Tomlinson who came in the 4th quarter and did what was asked defensively to help the team finish off the game.

The Pirates play tomorrow evening in Uvalde! Go Pirates!!!

Season record: 2-0
