The Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to Ingram on Saturday, August 17, for their first Meet of the year.

What we learned was that last year was last year and if we are going to be competitive this year then we are going to have to work a lot harder. We had some great performances from some of our freshman, with Nivea Sanchez finishing 7th on the Varsity, Natalie Williams finishing 2nd for the JV and Robert Wagner having an exciting finish to come from way back and finish strong passing a runner the last 10m to finish 2nd in the boys JV division.

It was a good place to start with 6 teams (Ingram, Marion, Randolph, Llano, Medina Valley and Lytle) competing in a tough course with a nice big hill to start the year. Our Varsity girls will be very young this year with up to 4 Freshman that may run Varsity at District. Nivea finished in the top 10 and sophomore Allison Marshall finished 9th. For the Varsity boys, they got a rude awakening. If it wasn’t for JC Hernandez’s late HUGE surge, Medina Valley would have gone 1-7 on us, so they know they have work to do.

For JV girls not only did Natalie finish in top 10, but Junior Thalia Gonzales finished 5th and Freshman, Dezmarie Ortega, finishing 10th in her 1st Cross Country Meet. The JV boys finished the day with Robert finishing strong and Israel Aguinaga placing 7th.
