"Your reputation will not win games. You must be ready mentally and physically." - Red Auerbach
It is always a joy to have Coach Martinez officiate our game. He told me that he was looking forward to the 8th Grade game and he was hoping that they would not disappoint. We came out against the five 8th Graders from Dilley and put the game away in the first quarter. We shot 10 for 17 from the field and 3 for 4 from the line to take a 23 to 0 lead. With a 20 point lead the clock ran the rest of the game. With Dilley only having 5 players they couldn't try different combinations to try to stop the Lytle juggernaut. The only points for Dilley came in the second quarter with an NBA launched 3 point shot which swished. At the half it was 33 to 3. We came out a bit cold in the 3rd quarter hitting only 2 of 8 shots to lead 37 to 3 at the end of the third. We scored 10 in the fourth quarter to try to give the fans their money's worth since the clock was running. At the end of the game we walked away undefeated in 2019 with a 47 - 3 victory. The one low point was Campbelle Aldridge hurt her knee in the second quarter. She did end with six points while she was playing. The leading scorer was Calyssa Sevier with 20 points and perfection from the free throw line at 2-2. Eternity Diaz stepped up in Campbelle's absence scoring 10 points. Katara Whitfield scored 6 and had a bunch of rebounds. Brianna Parades and Jessica Mata added 2 a piece and Amelia Martinez added a free throw. We appreciate everyone coming to watch the game. We start 2020 with a tournament in La Vernia facing off against Medina Valley and Poth. This will be a good test before we play Jourdanton here in January. The ladies would like to wish everyone in Lytle a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Congrats to the 7th Grade ladies for an excellent victory last night.
"Seven things to do: Be true to yourself; help others; make each day a masterpiece; drink deeply from great books, especially the Bible; make friendship a fine art; build a shelter against a rainy day; pray for guidance and count and give thanks for your blessing every day." - A note to John Wooden from his father Joshua Wooden.
