The Pirates have played two very tough playoff bound teams over the past few days. The Pirates played Karnes City this past Friday night, February 5, and won. From the start, the game was a track meet with each team pressing and playing at a fast pace. Karnes City was relentless and physical on the boards which challenged us to be just as physical. Although the starting five did well, two players off the bench stepped in and took their game to another level. Junior Bryson Duty had a career night scoring 21 points, while having 5 steals and 5 rebounds. The kid put on a show scoring 14 points in the 4th quarter alone. Junior Jacob Urlich scored 12 points, all three pointers to extend the lead at key moments in the second half.

Last night, February 9, the Pirates went into a hostile Poth gymnasium and pulled out another win. Jordan Bladeraz led all scorers with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Daniel Aguirre came off the bench scoring 11 points but adding some physicality the Pirates needed to close out Poth. Although we won by 15 points; the atmosphere is what the boys needed to experience before heading into the playoffs next week. The Poth crowd was loud and deranged at times. Our boys held their composure, and it was a sign of growth as they stayed humbled to finish off the Poth Pirates.
