Good Afternoon Pirate Nation,
This past Friday Feb. 9 the boys played their last district game of the season and lost 49-46 to Devine. The pirates played hard but were 8-18 from the free throw line which ultimately cost us the game against Devine. Jociah Cruzzi lead all scorers with 17 pts while Jeremy Thominson added 8 pts and 10 rebounds. The regular season is now officially over after last nights district games being played with the Pirates having the the last bye of the second round but the season is not over yet. The Pirates battled all district play and have earned a playoff birth for the post season.
Our team which consist of 6 seniors were in 7th grade the last time the Lytle varsity boys were in the basketball post season. When I met the boys in May of 2016 after taking over as head boys basketball I asked them, "What are the two things you want your team to accomplish before you graduate"? They all responded with the seam answer, a playoff birth and for our home stands to be filled during the games. I told them it would start with hard work, trust and belief the in the new system, and a new mindset that they could be the group to turn the program around. Two years later on Jan.16, 2018 the boys came in fired up before our first district home game and said, COACH, look outside, the drum line is setting up and the stands are jammed packed". The excitement in their eyes will be a moment I will never forget as coach and I want say thank you to the Lytle community for all the support this season. It has meant the world to our boys.
The Pirates will now take part in their second goal from two years ago and will face the Somerset Bulldogs this upcoming TUESDAY FEBRUARY 20, 2018 AT 7:00 PM AT SOUTHWEST HS for the first round of the playoffs. We hope to see all of the Pirate Nation wearing black and yellow on Tuesday night as we chase history with the first playoff win in boys basketball since 2008. GO PIRATES!!!!!
Thanks for all you do,
Head Boys Basketball
