11-13-2017 2017 Pirate Football Recap
On Friday, November 10th, the Pirate varsity football team finished their season with a loss to the Aggies from Poteet, 40-6.  The Pirates played shorthanded most of the game.  When the time the final buzzer sounded, only 16 players were able to play.  The season did not go as planned.  We faced a adversity on and off the field.  We had 6 players quit, 5 season ending injuries, and a number of players playing (or not playing) hurt on a weekly basis from our original 30 players.  During the second half of the Poteet game, we had a 2 linebackers and a defensive end playing in the secondary.  For those of you that understand football, you know that is not good.  Despite all the difficulties we faced, what we attempted to do with so few people was admirable.  The players continued to compete.  The filled in at positions they had never played.  They had each other’s back.  Everyone had to step out of their comfort zone and contribute.  I am proud of the group that made it to the end!

If you see one of the students, please congratulate them on finishing a tough season.  We had many kids quit on the JV and Varsity.  We preach in the classroom about “grit” and how important it is to not give up when something becomes difficult.  These boys finished.  They did not give up.
