4-27-2018 Softball VS Cuero - Bi-District Game 1 Recap

Pub: 4-27-18

Last night began the journey towards a State Championship for your Lady Pirates!

They traveled to Judson HS to take on the Cuero Lady Gobblers in 1st round, Bi-District action of the Texas High School Softball State Playoffs.

As the game kicked off, it was a pitcher's duel through 3 innings, as Precious Carrillo held her own against a tough Cuero lineup, sealing 3 K's and allowing only 3 hits. The defense had built a wall behind her allowing the girls to hang in there with the #4 ranked team in the state in 4A; it was 0-0 heading into the top of the 4th.

Knowing what kind of speed and movement the pitcher from Cuero was bringing, the Lady Pirates had a tough time catching up to the 65mph rise ball, along with a nasty 43mph change up.

As the top of the 4th inning got going, a miscommunication play and 2 errors in the top half of the 4th allowed Cuero to bring across 3 runs, which gave them the lead 3-0.

When the Lady Pirates came up to bat next, there was life brought back into them as Jalyn Aguinaga scorched down the 1st base line beating out a throw and a bobbled handle by the 1st baseman to lead things off.

Mariah Amador then laid down a beautiful sac bunt to move Jalyn over, but also Amador was safe at 1st.

This allowed Shyane Barnhill to finally get the barrel on the ball and gain an RBI single to left field.

The score was 3-1, Cuero heading into the top of the 5th inning.

Throughout the remaining 3 innings, your Lady Pirates accumulated for 5 more errors, and 7 more team strikeouts at the plate, which allowed Cuero to finish the game off scoring 6 unanswered runs and seal the game for them 9-1, gaining 1-0 lead in the series.

Game 2 will be tomorrow (Saturday, April 28) in Alice at 5:30pm, with a possible Game 3 if necessary 30 minutes after Game 2.
