The Varsity girls WON last night in a great game against Cotulla.
25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10
I am very proud of the way the girls fought through each set and never quit. We have been battling injuries with 2 more last night. Each girl put the team first over themselves. They have been working extremely hard and its paying off. They now sit tied for 3rd with Natalia.
They will travel Friday to Laredo and be back in Lytle on Tuesday for their last home game against Natalia. Winner seals 3rd in district. Which is what we want because 4th has to face the defending state champion-Goliad. I also heard through the grapevine Natalia plans to fill the stands including all their football boys so I encourage everyone to show up and support our girls!!!
Maricruz Reyes did an excellent job at the net despite twisting her ankle in the first set. She played through her pain and was on fire, leading the team with kills. Our setters, Ashley Klinger and Alejandra Rojas, did well getting our hitters the ball. We had a few net errors, but Abby Moreno, Chevy Landwehr, Jazmine Ortega, and Alexis Rodriguez controlled the net with hits and kills. Erica Frazier and Camryn led the team with digs as the had to pick up some difficult shots from the Cowgirls as well as Jessica Cuenca.
I do want to give a shout out to Angelik Martinez. I pulled her up this game because of the injuries the Varsity has had and when Maricruz rolled her ankle I knew she wouldn’t be able to serve. So, in game 1 with the score 24-23 I put her in to serve game point. She not only got her serve over but picked up a dig right to the setter for us to attack and end the set. Not too many could handle that so congrats to her for coming through.
