2-12-2019 Playoffs 2019 for Our Lady Pirates Basketball

Your Lady Pirates season ended last night, February 11th, with a loss to George West in Pleasanton. There were tears that we would not be together anymore but then there were smiles we would all be back next year except for Monique Covarrubias, our only senior. If you followed this team since October, you would see the improvements that each one of them made for the betterment of the TEAM. I had a new starting lineup just about every district game due to injuries and the flu, but the girls stepped up every time and gave me 110%. We have not made a playoff appearance since 2014 so the girls made the 2018-2019 season one to remember. I am so proud of all the girls and love them dearly.

Kiara Nixon led the offense for us throughout district play and was a great addition to our team this year. Kylie Mask led the defense for us all year long holding the opponents best players scoreless and getting beat up in the process. Eleni Keith was the heart and leadership for us stepping up when Noelia Medina went out with an ankle injury. Adriana Rios was our MVP of the Natalia game that clinched us a playoff spot. Camryn Martinez and Autumn Frias gave us important minutes in big games when called upon. Clarissa Ramos showed great play this year after recovering from an ACL injury and started in important games. Alex Naeglin peaked at the right time of the year and battled for us underneath the basket. Abby Moreno made great improvements throughout the season. Noelia Medina went down with an ankle injury right before the week it was “Do or Die for us. She did not return but showed her leadership off the court for the girls. Freshmen Nicole Godines learned and gained a lot of experience from this year to build on. Annalisa Crawley was missed all district play due to a torn ACL, she was our little hustler we truly missed her. Lastly, Monique Covarrubias the only senior I sometimes wonder how she keeps up with all the activities she is involved in and always gives a 110% percent she will truly be missed.

Thank you to everyone that supported the girls all year long it meant a lot to all of them and myself. Thank you to all the departments that help the athletic department stay running. I love this saying we had on one of our shirts: To the World, We are Just a Team, To Each Other We are Family. That’s what this team meant to me this year.

Go Pirates!!!!
