Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. -Winston Churchill
This last Friday, March 22nd, we took the throwers from Lytle and competed at Randolph with the Junior High and at Heroes Stadium hosted by Antonian.
The Junior High competed in their final meet before District this Friday. We have competed well and hopefully will dominate in the rings at district. We did a pretty good job at this meet of throwing well. The 8th grade girls had all three shot putters stay marked. Natalie Pacheco was 2nd with a 32'8". Bree Criswell placed 5th with a 30'1" throw and Sarah Yruarte stayed pinned with a bandaged left hand and threw 26'.75" throw. No 8th grade lads placed or stayed pinned. Ysabella Diaz placed 2nd and Alexis Flores placed 4th with throws of 26'9" and 26'.25" throws respectively for the 7th grade ladies. Mario Diaz placed 2nd with 31' 11", Jacob Guevara placed 4th with 29'5" and Ronnie Jimmie stayed pinned in 7th with 27'7". The 8th grade girls placed 4th with a throw of 76'3" by Nat Pacheco. Dakota Tumlinson stayed pinned at 60'9". Alex Medina stayed pinned in 8th grade with a 96'4" throw. The highlight of the meet was the 7th grade lady disc throwers. Andrea Aguilar has worked very hard this year and placed 2nd with a 60'7" throw. She began this year throwing 40 feet. Alexis placed 3rd at 59'8" and Ysabella placed 4th with a 56'2". The 7th grade lads also all placed in the top 5. Nathaniel Miller placed 3rd with a 93'-9" toss. Jacob Guevara was 4th at 92'1" and Ronnie Jimmie threw 85'7" to place 5th. Hopefully, they will all be able to get one good throw for the District Meet and see their success.
The Varsity threw at Heroes against about 30 throwers of various quality. Since there was only one competition, we all were measured. The gave only medals to the top three. Earning big A medals were Victor Garcia for 3rd with a 42'9" throw. Noelia Medina was third with a PR of 31'10" toss. Also, Cort Haltom in his first varsity meet won a 3rd place medal with a 108'8" discus throw. Noelia and Alex Medina finished 4th and 5th in Discus with a 98'1" and 97'8" throw. Alex's throw was a PR. James Black placed 6th in Shot with a PR of 36'6". The highlight of the night was Coach McCarthy helping the ladies in their thrower's relay. She started the relay and ran a 17-second first leg.
