Last Friday night, August 30th, our Varsity Pirates traveled to Comfort, TX to open our 2019 Season. We thought the game was going to start at 7:30, but Mother Nature had other ideas. We headed out of the visitor locker room to start our pregame festivities and we were called back due to lightning in the area. The opening kickoff didn't happen till about 8:30.
Even with all the delays, the young men came out and played hard in the first half, one play in particular, the guys were talking about on Saturday. Late in the second quarter, Court Haltom broke free and crushed the Comfort quarterback causing him to throw early and Rylan Wagner picked it off and returned it to the 15-yard line. We thought it was going to set up a score going to Halftime, but that was not the case. The Halftime score was 0-0.
Defense played very well in the first half; in the second half you could tell they were tired from being on the field much of the game. The Offense had its moments but struggled to get anything going, we had some chances but didn't connect.
