Lytle 14, Dilley 6
Last night, September 19th, the 8th Grade Pirates played host to the Dilley Wolves and came away with the 1st victory of their Junior High careers.
As the clock wound down to zero, I purposely turned to the team to see their reaction. This celebration was a long time coming. The buzzer sounded...nothing....five, six, seven seconds later there was a pile of 8th Graders at the 50-yard line bouncing up and down, screaming, high-fiving...I guess they wanted to make sure this was for real. This is why we coach.
"we don't remember days, we remember moments"
The Pirates struck first on a Quarterback sneak from Jacob Guevara behind a nice push from the offensive line of Richard Hernandez, Marion Diaz, Hector Anaya, Anthony Perdomo, and Elijah Martinez. Guevara hooked up with Daniel Romero on a nice pass in the corner of the end zone for the 2-point conversion.
After a fine defensive stop, the Pirates struck again on a beautiful 50-yard screen play to Rudy Cepeda. Pirates led 14 - 0 at half.
In the 2nd half, the Pirate defense continued their fine play and held the Wolves to one score. The defense was led by Mario Diaz, Ivan Rodriguez, Daniel Romero, Robert Guizar and Adriel Ayala.
