This past Saturday, September 28th, the band traveled to Beeville for our first marching contest of the year. We chose this contest because Beeville will be hosting the UIL Area Marching Contest for our 3A Region this year, and we wanted to take advantage of an opportunity to march there and get a feel for the stadium. Obviously, this was the thinking of many 3A directors as there were 20 3A bands there out of 28 visiting bands.
It was a very tough field that included at least 6 bands that have been to State Marching Contest in the past few years. I told the band this contest would be a very good indication of how we might do at Area if we qualify. I was very pleased that we placed 8th out of the 20 bands in 3A. (For perspective, our best-ever finish at Area was 13th in 2006). All five bands in our UIL Music Region competed at this contest (Lytle, Natalia, Jourdanton, Cotulla and Dilley), and other than our 8th place finish, none of the other bands in our region placed higher than 14th.
Next for the band is the Rocket Review Marching Contest at Judson HS; a complete contrast from Beeville as we will be the only 3A band in attendance. (So, I guarantee a 1st place finish J). The band takes the field at 10 AM and we would love to have you there to cheer us on if you have the chance. This will be our final contest before UIL on October 12th in Hondo.
