"To give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." - Steve Prefontaine
Yesterday, October 2nd, the Junior High ran their last race before the District race next week in Dilley. The golf course in Devine is a challenge due to the inclines and soft sandy soil. All did well and as one boy from another team asked Luke Estrada, as he was giving high fives to the finishers of the race, "why is Lytle so good at Cross Country?" The answer is due to the hard work put in by each runner in Lytle. The 8th Grade started, and it was exciting for them to have Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Gonzales, Mrs. Null and her children and Coach Bohl encourage them at the finish. I appreciate Mrs. Stewart allowing them to leave early to attend. The 8th Grade boys can do something no other Junior High team has ever done. When they win District next week they will have swept every Meet as champions. Get out the brooms. We lost one athlete to grades but Aiden Martinez stepped up and became our fifth runner and we beat Pleasanton by 20 points.
The 8th Grade girls ran just as well with three of the ladies having 3 of the top 5 times for all the girls in Lytle. Three medaled in the top ten to help the girls finish just ten points behind Pleasanton for 2nd in the Meet.
The 7th Grade group ran the final race. Luke Estrada won the race and Johnny Alvarez finished 4th overall. We still have ground to make up on Cotulla for next week, but I think we will be able to give them a run for the District Title. I was very pleased with the 7th Grade young ladies. Even though no one medaled I believe they have put themselves in position to place well at District.
I am thankful for the parents who support these athletes and to the teachers who are impacting their lives.
