Will you Compete or Complain?
Worthiness is measured by whether there is more strength in you than adversity in your environment. Whether there is more courage in you than fear in your circumstances.
Compete to survive, thrive, and take care of people.....or, go ahead and complain that it's too much, too hard, too unfair.
Last night, October 24th, as the JV Football team arrived at the football stadium, they saw an opposing team consisting of 55 players stretching on the field. Compared to our 20 suited up on our sideline, the first thought that runs through a 15 to 16-year-old student-athlete's mind is, "Man, they have a lot of guys. They are big!"
There's TWO things you can do as a person at this point......you can Compete, or you can Complain.
As both teams were ready to take the field to begin the game, the JV Pirates were ready for the challenge!
Dealing with adversity, injuries, and off the field issues for majority of the season, the love for the game of football that is instilled within each one of the student-athletes we have is unbelievable.
After the opening kickoff was returned by Albert Aguilar to the Pirates 40-yard line, first offensive play from the line of scrimmage to begin the game was a beautiful 60-yard double pass for a Touchdown!
Collin Aldridge passed to Malakai Castro passed to Darren Martinez who scampered down the sideline after catching the pass from Castro to give the Pirates a 6-0 lead with just 15 seconds taken off the clock; extra point conversion failed.
Unfortunately, that was the only score the Pirates were able to get on the board as Jourdanton continued to sub players in and out to keep their guys fresh, which wore down our players up and down the field.
But, as the game continued, the JV Pirates continued to Compete!
Multiple times the defense faced 3rd and 4th downs, in which they stepped up and built their stone wall. Robert Wagner, Cecil Olivarri, Jordan Balderas, and Brandon Adkins led the defense, but every single player on the team contributed until the final whistle.
Jourdanton was able to score 4 times against the Pirates, but 3 out 4 times that the Indians went for the 2-point conversion, the Pirates held on and denied them of those 2 points.
There is no doubting the effort the boys continue to put on display week in and week out. With a group of this caliber, with the talent, tenacity, and teamwork they show, and with 90% of them being Freshmen, they are experiencing true tests early on, which can and will lead to a big treasure in their years to come.
JV Pirates lose to the Jourdanton Indians, 26-6.
Overall record: 5-3 (District 2-2)
