I am extremely proud to announce that for the 4th time in the past 8 years, Skull Studios students have produced a documentary film that has made it to the TOP SIX in the state in the UIL Young Filmmakers contest. Please do us the honor of watching the results of their hard work in this 7-minute film, Camp CAMP Volunteers.
The nonprofit organization, C.A.M.P. (Children Achieving Maximum Potential), met with our film students back in October and explained that due to the unique services they provide people with special needs, and children who are medically fragile, they have waiting lists for campers and people needing the respite care they provide. They didn't need a film that would attract more campers. What they really needed was a film that would recruit more young, energetic volunteers. Mr. Robert Mumme, Ms. Donelle Harris and I took a group of 10 students to Camp CAMP in Centerpoint, TX the Friday before Thanksgiving and we stayed all weekend to guide them in the filming of this project. As you'll see when you watch the video, two of our very own Lytle students, Preston Edge and Mykaela Flores were first-time volunteers at Camp CAMP, and 8 Skull Studios students, (2 film/photography crews) documented their experiences. In addition to being one of the top 6 in the UIL Documentary Category, we just found out today that the film is also one of the top 6 Nobelity Social Impact Award finalists. The film premieres on the big screen at the Historic Paramount Theater in Austin, TX, on February 25th. Here's what the film critics (UIL judges) had to say:
