2-13-2020 Lytle Students Top the List of Texas' UIL Young Filmmakers. You are invited to see their film before the rest of the world!

I am extremely proud to announce that for the 4th time in the past 8 years, Skull Studios students have produced a documentary film that has made it to the TOP SIX in the state in the UIL Young Filmmakers contest. Please do us the honor of watching the results of their hard work in this 7-minute film, Camp CAMP Volunteers.

The nonprofit organization, C.A.M.P. (Children Achieving Maximum Potential), met with our film students back in October and explained that due to the unique services they provide people with special needs, and children who are medically fragile, they have waiting lists for campers and people needing the respite care they provide. They didn't need a film that would attract more campers. What they really needed was a film that would recruit more young, energetic volunteers. Mr. Robert Mumme, Ms. Donelle Harris and I took a group of 10 students to Camp CAMP in Centerpoint, TX the Friday before Thanksgiving and we stayed all weekend to guide them in the filming of this project. As you'll see when you watch the video, two of our very own Lytle students, Preston Edge and Mykaela Flores were first-time volunteers at Camp CAMP, and 8 Skull Studios students, (2 film/photography crews) documented their experiences. When you see any of these hard-working photographers, graphic designers, and videographers, please congratulate them for making Lytle ISD so proud:

Videographers/Photographers: Louis Lopez, Elias Moore, Aracely Aguilar, Joshua VanDong, Amaris Plaza, Emily Garcia

Video Editors: Aracely Aguilar, Joshua VanDong

Graphic Designer: Alexandria (Lexi) Paz

Graphic Animator: Louis Lopez

In addition to being one of the top 6 in the UIL Documentary Category, we just found out today that the film is also one of the top 6 Nobelity Social Impact Award finalists. The film premieres on the big screen at the Historic Paramount Theater in Austin, TX, on February 25th. Here's what the film critics (UIL judges) had to say:

"Your documentary was very informative and very well put together, makes me want to volunteer."

"This was an excellent documentary. It is extremely well done. I loved the selection of music, great b-roll footage and your intro was an attention-getter."

"Great work! Loved the different shots on location and seeing what the volunteers actually go thru to become a volunteer. Excellent job!"

"This was a beautiful documentary about how people can really make a difference in other peoples' lives. The incorporation of numerous different interviews and different points of view significantly added to making the documentary compelling. The b-roll's placement over the interviewers was perfectly aligned and helped to provide a visualization of the events that were being described. Overall, this is an excellently produced and edited documentary."

"This documentary was very emotional. The footage you provide allows your audience to see and "feel" a bit of what the camp volunteers do to help those with disabilities. Overall, I must say I was compelled to be a part of the camp which seems to have been the purpose of your documentary. Fantastic job! I feel lucky to have been able to see your film. Keep up the great work."
