“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goa. The tragedy lies in having no goal to read. It isn’t a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, but it is a disaster to have no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. Not failure but low aim that is a sin.” - Benjamin E. Mayes
Welcome to March. Last week the Lytle Track teams competed at Bandera. With Fredricksburg, Devine, Hondo, Bandera and Antonian present it was like an area meet for my throwers. This week in both the Junior High and High School the boys threw better than the ladies. The ladies all did well and received marks but we only received one medal. Sarah Yruarte placed second in the JV girls Shot Putt with a throw of 26’2”. Bandera only gives medals for top three like in the Regional and State Track Meets. If you have a Bandera medal you threw well. Throwers and marks as follows:

Sarah Yruarte 26’2” – 2nd

The Meet started for the High School with the running events. Both boys and girls throwers competed in the throwers relay. The boys ran the relay in 58:40 and the girls ran in 1:04.93.
Friday, February 28th, the Junior High made the trip into the hills of Bandera. I really appreciate Coach McCarthy going to watch over my JH throwers. I needed to help my wife who is recovering from neck surgery. It was the second meet the throwers were able to compete in and once again with Fredericksburg, Devine, Hondo and Bandera present they would need to bring their best. The boys from the other teams have not seen the quality of Lytle. Juan Olvera won both in 7th Grade boys. Mario Diaz won 8th shot and Jacob Guevara was 2nd in discus with a PR of 122’9”. Hector Anaya placed in his first meet. He did not throw last year. It is good to have excellent athletes who want to throw. Coachable athletes who have quality skills make excellent throwers. Results as follows:
Shot Discus
7th Grade Boys – 22 points
Juan Olivera 34’.25” – 1st 109’9” – 1st
Gavin Cain 26’2”
Nico Pacheco NMM
Ajay Frausto 81’10” – 5th
Jiaro Martinez 66’5”
8th Grade Boys – 22 points

Hector Anaya 34’8” – 4th
Jacob Guevera 33’3”122’9” – 2nd
Nathaniel Miller 92’8”
Daniel Mercado NMM
The Junior High girls came searching for good throws. Hondo, Devine and Bandera are teams we saw quite often when we were in 4A so they are a good measuring stick to our progress. Ysabella who had won the Pearsall meet placed third this meet. We had 7th Grade girls remain pinned but we haven’t thrown to our potential yet. Results as follows:
Shot Discus
7th Grade Girls - 3 pts
Gillian Haltom 25’.25” – 8th, 54’6.5” – 9th
Nayelli Pacheco 24’10.75”, 55’7” – 5th
Lunna Reyes NMM
Joanna Plaza 55’6” – 6th
8th Grade Girls – 11 pts
Ysabella Diaz 30’4.5” – 3rd, 60’8” – 9th
Alexis Flores 27’3”.75”, 71’ – 4th
Katara Whitfield 22’11” – 11th
Andrea Aguilar 62’4” – 7th
We end the week throwing in the rings here in Lytle. It will be like a mini District Meet without Jourdanton. Since it is our Meet, I will have the opportunity to throw a plethora of Junior High throwers. Before you ask, yes, I know what plethora means. The Junior High will compete to see who gets to continue to have an opportunity to throw for Lytle at the District meet at the end of March.
“If I had a formula for bypassing trouble, I would not pass it around. Trouble creates a capacity to handle it. I don’t embrace trouble; that is as bad as treating it as an enemy. But I do say meet it as a friend, for you’ll see a lot of it and you had better be on speaking terms with it.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes
