Last night, January 12th, the boys took on a Karnes City team that was tough and relentless all night long. The Pirates ended up winning but had to earn every basket. With 18 lead changes in the game, it was a defensive battle from the tip off. With both teams battling on both sides of the ball, Karnes City took a 19-18 lead into the half. The Pirates had to turn up the full court press in the fourth quarter which lead to 10 steals and 8 points by the Pirates to help win the game down the stretch. Jordan Balderaz led the Pirates with 16 points and 12 rebounds to finish off the night. Matt Sanchez who hadn't played since the holiday break due to an injury, hit two key three pointers in the fourth quarter to extend the lead and finished with 12 points off the bench. Senior Carson Aldridge had three key steals in the fourth quarter that ignited the 10-2 run in the final minutes for the win. Go Pirates!
