3-19-2021 Lessons from the Rings Antonian Edition

"It is not for all our wishes to be filled; through sickness we recognize the value of health; through evil, the value of good; through hunger, the value of food; through exertion, the value of rest."

- Greek saying

Yesterday, March 18th, we went into the Antonian Meet listed as one of the favorites in the competition. However, it is one thing on paper and it is another to accomplish the task. I began the day wondering if some young throwers might earn their way on to the varsity and I left the day confident of the varsity teams. The JV and Varsity were combined and we had five lads throwing in both events. The following is how they threw:

Discus

Cort Haltom – 199' 3" (4th)

Alex Medina - 122'2" (2nd) (Personal Record)

Shot:

Cort Haltom – 38'2" (5th)

James Black – 37'6.25" (6th)

Robey Harold - 38'6" (4th)

The ladies had only four competitors for each event due to absences from practice. They were entered at the best in the competition and they performed to expectations. We didn't really improve our distances but we were able to medal and score points to help the team. The ladies added 37 points for the team. Noelia Medina continues her winning ways having now placed first in both shot and discus in her three meets.

Discus:

Noelia Medina - 96'5" (1st)

Alex Naeglin  - 90'11" (3rd)

April Bodie - 79'3" (5th)

Sydney Estrada - DNP

Shot:

Noelia Medina - 33'4" (1st)

April Bodie - 32'9" (2nd) (Personal Record)

Sarah Ytuarte - 28-2" (6th) (Personal Record)

Marianna Hutton - DNP

The Seniors of Alex N, Noelia, James and Robey will throw for the final time in competition in our rings. For six years they have represented the Skull with great pride, athleticism and sportsmanship. If you have the time, it will be well worth the experience.

"You can buy a person's time; you can buy their physical presence at a given place; you can even buy a measured number of their skilled muscular motions per hour. But you cannot buy their enthusiasm, you cannot but loyalty. You cannot buy the devotion of hearts, minds or souls. You must earn these."
