This past week I had the honor of taking Emelia Garcia to Melissa to perform with the ATSSB (association of Texas small school bands) All-State Band. Emelia was in the concert band which consisted of 1A-3A schools. When we arrived she had one last audition in which she became the 5th best flute player in the state.
When she began practicing in his year we thought she we would be auditioning for bragging rights and a patch since all performances were canceled and all auditions were virtual. Thankfully our state officers had the foresight to go ahead a plan a clinic and concert just in case. The two ATSSB bands and Jazz band were the only state bands that performed this entire year. It was such a great experience for all the students involved and a fantastic way for Emelia to end her high school experience. Emelia does plan on playing her flute in college with one of the bands at UT Tyler.
