Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to Floresville on Saturday, August 21, 2021, for their first of 8 invitational Meets before we head into the Championship Season.
In the morning, we followed an unusual schedule as the Varsity Boys started the day followed by the Junior Varsity Boys instead of starting with the girls’ races. What we discovered on the boys’ side was that we are not the #7 team in the State right now and if we don't get healthy and step up, we will be sitting at home this year after Regionals. We had some great individual performances but have a long way to go if we want to return to the State Meet.
Varsity Boys had two runners taking part as Junior Robert Wagner finished in the top ten finishing 4th out of 59 runners and Sophomore Brandon Obando finished 19th.
Junior Varsity Boys had two impressive runs with Freshmen Johnny Rey Alvarez and Luke Estrada who both finished in the top ten with 5th and 8th respectfully in their first 5K race. Team scores were not available at the time, but they would have finished 2nd overall behind New Braunfels Canyon.
Varsity Girls had 3 finishes in the top ten. Junior Eisabel Guerrero finished 3rd, Sophomore Samantha Mujica in 5th and Junior Marissa Lopez in 10th. Rounding out the Varsity Girls were Juniors Moriah Gomez in 15th and Dezmarie Ortega in 20th. Unfortunately, we would have finished 2nd behind Poth, but ahead of Floresville, Highlands, La Vernia, Luling and Austin Regents. We still have a couple of runners dealing with injuries and hope that they continue to get better by the time our Championship season begins in October.
Junior Varsity Girls had 3 runners, Fatima Montes taking 18th, Rose Scotello in 22nd and Alize Sanchez in 46th out of 69 runners.
