The Junior Varsity Pirate football team travelled down FM 132 last night, September 16, 2021, and lost a close, hard-fought game to that blue team. We talked about execution and effort all week in practice. Our effort was acceptable but our execution was not. You never know which play or plays will be the difference in a close game. Last night, our offense failed to execute our 3rd down plays in the first half to keep our drives alive. Our opponent capitalized on this and jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead. Abel Garcia ran the ball well behind fine blocking by William Davalos, Jair Flores, Nicco Perez, and Damien Ramon.
In the 2nd half, the Pirate offense played much better and put together a 9 play drive that stalled out on the 15-yard line. Hudson Lindsay hooked up with Andrew Gonzales and Joseph Davenport on 3 of 4 passes. Abel Garcia continued to run the ball well along with Hudson Lindsay. Our opponent took advantage of their opportunity and scored on the ensuing drive to bring the score to 12 - 0. The Pirates answered back with a 40 yard touchdown pass from Jair Flores to Andrew Gonzales. Lytle 6, Blue Team 12. The 2-point conversion failed. The Pirate defense stepped up and got a much-needed stop on fine plays by Jair Flores, Damien Ramon and Joseph Davenport. With 1:25 left, the Junior Varisty Pirate offense sputtered and the time ran out.
