10-18-2021 Pirate Football vs Cole

Last Friday, October 16, 2021, the Pirate Varsity Football team took on the Cole Cougars in the fourth game of District Play. Our team continues to improve and after a hard-fought first half, the score was 15-7 heading into half time. Offensively, Junior Running Back/Linebacker Deven Caldera led the offense on the ground with 136 rushing yards on 27 carries. Junior Defensive Back/Running Back Albert Aguilar chipped in an additional 38 yards rushing on 8 carries. Up front, our offensive line of Jacob Guevara, Kasen Boyd, Elijiah Ramirez, Elias Hernandez and new starter Hector Anaya did an excellent job of opening holes for our ground game to flourish.

Our defense showed significant improvement this past week, forcing three Cole turnovers, and flying to the ball from sideline to sideline. Defensive standouts include Junior Defensive Back/Running Back Albert Aguilar who had an incredible game, registering 16 Total Tackles (10 Solos, 6 Assists, 1 Tackle for Loss), 1 Forced Fumble on a big hit and 1 Fumble Recovery. Albert has been a standout on our team this season and his performance has been stellar in all three phases of the game. Senior Defensive End Josh Del Toro also had a spectacular game. Josh moved to the defensive line and responded with his best game of the season, registering 7 total tackles (all solos), 3 tackles for loss and 1 fumble recovery. Other standout performers include Senior Center/Linebacker Elias Hernandez (2 solos, 3 assists, 1 fumble recovery), Sophomore Wide Receiver/Linebacker Amadeus Trejo-Perez (2 solos, 3 assists, 1 pass breakup), Sophomore Offensive Guard/Defensive Tackle Mario Diaz (1 solo, 3 assists), Senior Kasen Boyd (2 Tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss, 1 Quarter Back Sack) and Freshman Defensive Back/Quarterback Luke Estrada (4 solo tackles).

Our team continues to compete and fight hard to the end. Our younger players are developing into seasoned players and our Seniors continue to be a positive source of energy and leadership.
