I am so pleased to write this and share the great news. Last night, November 4, 2021, the 7th Grade boys’ football team had a “great moment born from a great opportunity!”
Both Cotulla and the Lytle Pirates went into the game undefeated and playing for the District Title! It was one heck of a game!!! Cotulla scored first and took a 6-0 lead. Our boys went down and tied the score. Both teams missed the 2-point conversions, sending us to halftime tied 6-6. After the Pirates turned the ball over, the Cowboys went in for another score and completed the 2-point conversion, making it a 14-6 score.
Our boys buckled down and went on another scoring drive topped off by Jaden "Mad Dog" Motes scoring his second touchdown. We unfortunately missed the 2-point conversation and were behind 14-12. Seth "Superman" Pierce kicked off and the ball deflected off a Cowboy and was recovered by Nathan "The Nuke" Garza. The boys scored again and succeeded with the 2-point conversation for a 20-14 lead. Cotulla drove the field and got inside the 10-yard line threatening to tie and possibly win the game, but an awesome defensive stand orchestrated by Coach Brian "Bubba, Bip" Bippert and his fearless 11 boys on the field held strong and stopped the Cowboys on 4th and goal to seal the Victory for an UNDEFEATED SEASON AND THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
None of this would have been possible without the support of our Athletic Director, Lori "The Wonderful" Wilson, Ada "The Terrific" Tapia and all of the concession stand crew, My Beautiful wife and her ticket taking talents, William "Wild-Man" Cross and his Operations Team, or "Mad Dog" Mando and the transportation crew.
Our amazing and awesome Cafeteria Ladies for preparing all the meals for every game and last but definitely not least, the "Terrific and Super Talented" Teachers and Administration for their continued support throughout this Wonderful Season! I’m proud to speak for both Coach Bippert and myself when I say what a joy it was to coach and spend time with these fine young men!
