Yesterday, December 6, 2021, the 8th Grade boys traveled to Poth in a battle of the Pirates! To start off the night, the B team used some stellar defense to shut down Poth's towering big men and their offense, this allowed us to push the pace which is our tempo of play! The ball was controlled most of the night by Frank N.G. who helped distribute the ball and get us good looks for high percentage shots from Noah Mercer, Travis Norton, and Bryce Smith. Along with his nice court vision, N.G. also got us rolling with some sharp shooting from beyond the arc. The Pirates defense held onto the lead despite a second-half rally from Poth for the 23-19 victory! (2-1)

For the final game of the night, the A team lived up to their name and talent for sure! The boys took it to Poth early to get us going, however, being undermanned this game depth may play an issue at it did early on. We got into foul trouble early on into the first half which resulted in two of our starters sitting the final 4 minutes, and our offense felt it. They managed to buckle down and take a one-point lead into the half, despite 15 of their 25 coming from FT! Out of half time, they finally settled down and got back to what has made the boys successful, playing tough and hard defense, which leads us into faster offense on the other end! Fast forward to the end of the 4th quarter and it's been a back and forth shooting spree between both teams; the Pirates are clinging to a 2-point lead with 8 seconds left but Poth managed to send it into overtime! We played some incredible defense and Lee Mills got us rolling with a clutch dagger three-pointer! Some solid free throw shooting and closing out defense helped the boys hold on for their 3rd win in a row! Chase Guevarra was driving and scoring most of the night. When he wasn't, he was able to find his teammates such as Toby Davila, Princeton Menchaca, and Lee Mills who seemed to have the hot hand from beyond the arc. Lytle 57- Poth 55 (3-0)
