The girls lost their Friday night home opener to Karnes City 49-42. We got into foul trouble early and that hurt our game plan of pressing. Karnes City played a zone and even though we knew this we struggled scoring against it. We were 24-24 going into the half but the 3rd quarter was the decision maker they outscored us 11-4. We shot 10/34 and missed 10 free throws we have to better in those areas to win big games. The girls all showed up for practice Saturday and we finally have all 11 girls healthy. The girls are now 1-1 in District and have 14 games left. We will travel to Natalia next and play our 6th year against them for the Rivalry Basketball Game. Leading the team was Fizz Hutton with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 deflections, 6 steals, and 1 charge.
Next was Cadee Martinez with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 deflections, 2 steals, and 1 block. Calyssa Sevier took 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 deflections, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Katara Whitfield had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 deflections, and 1 block. Nicole Godines grabbed 2 points, and 1 steal. Nicole is healthy and will be ready for more minutes tomorrow.
Amelia Martinez did not score but played great defense for us. She has stepped up every night I have called upon her.
Go Pirates!
