This past Tuesday night, December 14, 2021, the Pirates took on the Natalia Mustangs to open District play and won 88-35. With tickets sold out for both Varsity games, the gym capacity reached standing room only and the atmosphere was electric. Chants back and forth between both communities showed why this rivalry is one of the best in South Texas. The Pirates started pressing from the start, creating over 10 turnovers in the 1st quarter which led to a 24-6 lead.
From the start Natalia kept playing their tails off but could not keep up with the Pirates fast paced offense and defensive pressure. Junior Jordan Balderaz had 21 points and 12 rebounds while Jalen Guevara scored 16 points of his own. Senior Captain Bryson Duty scored 13 points and continues to be a floor general, playing multiple positions to ensure the team is successful. Go Pirates!
