This week, both the Junior High and High School Bands attended UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation at Hondo High School.
The Junior High Band performed on Tuesday, and earned a "Superior" rating (1st division) from all 3 judges in the Concert portion AND all 3 judges in the Sight Reading portion, which qualifies them for a Sweepstakes award. This is the first time since 2017 that the Junior High Band has received a Sweepstakes award, and we couldn't be prouder of their work!
The High School Band performed on Wednesday afternoon, and also earned a Superior rating from all 3 judges in the Concert portion, AND all 3 judges in Sight Reading. Earning a 1st division rating in both Concert and Sight Reading, coupled with the 1st division rating that the Pirate Band earned at the UIL Marching Competition in October qualifies the Pirate Band for a Sweepstakes award as well! This is the 4th consecutive Sweepstakes award for the Pirate Band, and this is the first time in the history of Lytle ISD that both the JH Band and the HS Band have earned perfect scores from the UIL judges!
We are beyond proud of the progress that these fine young musicians have made this year, and we are incredibly excited to see what the future holds for these organizations! Special thanks to our amazing Ops team that helped us get down the road despite the adversities that arose, and special thanks to ALL the teachers, staff, and administration on both campuses that helped us keep an eye on student grades for eligibility purposes. Finally, thank you to Mrs. MJ Robles and Mr. Javier Lopez for putting in such amazing instructional time with all of our students to ensure their musical success!
