Over 300 runners took part in the Alamo City Mile on Saturday, March 13, 2022, at Antonian Prep High School. It is a mixed Open 1600m Race available to anyone wanting to test themselves against some of the city's best long-distance runners. We had 17 runners that gave up their first day of Spring Break to go and get in this extra race. This is the most runners we have had to participate in this event. Last year, we had 10 go with 8 setting Personal Records (PR's). All 17 of our runners this year set Personal Records! Last Spring, our best girl's time in the 1600m was 5:43.98 and last night we had 5 girls go below that. One of those was 8th Grader Klayre Cook with a time of 5:36.51.
This was after watching the Junior High 1600m runners, 7th Grade Girls Vanessa Ayala, 7th Grade Boys Nathan Garza, 8th Grade Girls Frankie Scotello, and 8th Grade Boys Bryan Montes, win all 4 divisions at the Junior High Meet in Dilley on Thursday. Something I believe we have never done before. I was immensely proud of all of them as they are seeing progress in all the work they continue to put in every week.
