The boys track team traveled to Columbus, TX this past Wednesday, April 20, 2022, to compete in the Area Track Meet. Jose Cortez started the day in the 3200 Meter Run and finished 3rd overall with 10:49.31, advancing to the Regional Track Meet. Mario Diaz competed in the Shot Put with a 41’3” throw and placed 7th overall to finish the day. In the 800 Meter Dash Robert Wagner came in 2nd with a time of 2:05.64, Abel Sanchez claimed 4th with 2:08.89. Both qualified for Regionals after outstanding performances. The 4X200 Meter Relay team of Rudy Cepeda, Hudson Mask, Brandon Adkins, and Malakai Garza placed 7th overall with a time of 1:37.10. Malakai Garza placed 7th overall in the 400 Meter Dash with 54.84.
In the 1600 Meter Run Jose Cortez placed 2nd with 4:40.36 and Robert Wagner placed 4th with 4:48.81. Both qualified for the Regional Meet. Alex Medina turned in another exceptional performance, qualifying on his final attempt in Discus with a 133' 6" throw and finishing 4th overall.
Last, but not least our 4X400 Meter Relay team, Brandon Adkins, Miguel Lopez, Malakai Garza and Rudy Cepeda, rounded out the day with a time of 3:42.83 and placed 7th. As a team, our boys finished tied for 6th out of 15 teams and scored 38 points. This has been an interesting season to say the least, just like any other having its ups and downs. Please help me congratulate these young men who qualified for this Meet and to those who have advanced to Regionals next week in Seguin, TX.
