I find this quote from Don Haskins very fitting for last night! The 8th Grade boys went to Hondo to take on the Owls in what turned out to be an inspirational and hard-fought game. Hondo was bigger, faster, and stronger, but they weren't better!
It is best described as two heavy weights punching each other for 15 rounds in an absolute slug fest! These boys came away victorious, led by Weston Jackson and Seth Pierce connecting 3 times for a touchdown. Jalen Motes chipped in with another score and a tremendous effort after being out with the flu. The offensive line deserves a lot of credit for allowing others to perform while they fought hard in the trenches.
Coach Martinez and the Defense came out in the second half like Rocky Balboa vs Ivan Drago and let them know who the true heavyweight champ was...and it wasn't the Russian!
Coach and I were more impressed with the class our boys showed after the game while shaking hands. Trust me, we couldn't be prouder!
Please come out and support them. This was the game that decided the district championship last year by one point and it will be a tough one, so please come out and support your Mighty Pirates.
