11-9-2022 Pirate Football Season Closer

Last Friday, November 4, 2022, the Pirates traveled to take on the Crystal City Javelinas in Game 10 of the 2022 season. After a tied-up 0-0 score at the end of the 1st quarter, Crystal City was able to take the lead going into half time. The Pirate team plays tough on the road and this game was no different. The offense was able to move the ball on a few drives and the defense was relentless. The game finished with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Junior Wide Receiver Rudy Cepeda from Freshman Quarterback Toby Davila.

Final 6-31

Building a program is a process. Achieving sustained success is a process. We, as a coaching staff, are fortunate to have outstanding young men to coach who believe in this process. We are incredibly proud of this team for what they have achieved and overcome. The daily victories, the positive mindset and the support of each other as teammates, coaches and the community have led to some incredible growth for our program. We were able to establish a culture this past Spring, during our first off season together. We defeated West Campus. We cut scoreboard deficits in half from a year ago. We were competitive and saw a fire in the eyes of our kids. The exciting part of the process was, in addition to our 9 Seniors, we did this with 4 Freshman, 8 Sophomores and 9 Juniors, who not only logged considerable time, but started on Friday Night with the Varsity. Our program is growing at both the Junior High and High School levels. These are just a few of the great accomplishments from this past season:

Growth:

Highest Participation in three years – 114 Players (An increase of 12 players from 2021)

Academics:

8 Junior High “A” Honor Roll

31 Junior High “A-B” Honor Roll

9 High School “A” Honor Roll (An increase of 6 players from 2021)

22 High School “A-B” Honor Roll

Consistency and Completion:

Junior Varsity was able to complete their season for the second year in row. The experience gained by playing and completing two Junior Varsity seasons is critical to the development of young players.

Culture:

This program introduced some new initiatives, such as our Faculty-Coaches of the Week, which allowed Faculty and Staff to be a part of our program during the week and on Friday Nights. Our Team and Coaching Staff appreciated all the support from our Pirate Family throughout the course of the season. It meant quite a bit to share the field with you all. Thank you for changing lives for the better, every day!

Service:

The Pirates were able to take part in the Peanut Butter Bowl this past season, which raised close to 1000 jars of peanut butter for those in need. It was a great Act of Service for our kids to serve those in need and give to a great cause. We also served as Morning Greeters at our Elementary School. We look forward to doing this again soon.

Pirate Spirit Crews:

This season, the Spirit Crews, which include our Decorations Crew, Spirit Bags Crew, Game Night Chains Crew, and Hawg Night/Team Meals Crew were outstandingThe Spirit Crews, which number close to 50 parents, supplied so much support, time and effort for our program this year and we deeply appreciate all they have done and continue to do, not just for football, but for Pirate Athletics as well. We appreciate you all.

There are remarkable things going on with our Pirate Football program. It Grows as it Goes. We are headed in the right direction. The Future is Bright and we are looking forward to seeing where our program goes from here.

On behalf of the coaching staff, I would like to thank our 9 Seniors for all their commitment and dedication. They bought into our vision and served as the foundation for the future success of our program. We told them that the most important thing is to leave the program as better men than when they entered, and that they do. To Dustin Tumlinson, Connor Martin, Hudson Mask, Damien Myers, Angel Vasquez, Roland Cordova, Austin Dubose, Darren Martinez and Albert Aguilar, we appreciate you staying the course. Your humility and perseverance are inspiring. Furthermore, it assures us that you are ready to enter adulthood and do wonderful things in your life. Stay strong through the storms of life and know that all of you can do anything you want to do in your life. You just have to believe it. Thank you for all you have done for Pirate Football.
