1-6-2023 Junior High Girls Basketball vs Natalia

Last night, January 5, 2023, the Junior High Girls took on Natalia for the second time this season and once again swept the night. We knew the girls would be a bit rough and out of shape from the vacation, but they were still ready to play last night.

7th Grade B Team - The girls have been playing strongly together and getting better at shooting. The first half of the game was slow for both teams and we ended it with a score of 3-2. The girls took a much-needed couple of minutes and then started the second half. Since the girls only play 12-minute halves with a running clock, they are constantly on the move and we encourage them to just keep shooting. That is exactly what Alisha Van Zant did and put 7 more points for the girls to win the game 10-4.

7th Grade A Team – It is always nice to come on to the floor to start your game on the heels of your classmates winning, and our 7th Grade A Team was ready to go. They worked hard, pressed when they scored and dominated throughout the game. The girls had only 7 players last night, so they all got to see the floor for some good playing time. We also had almost everyone on the team score yesterday, which helped with the win over Natalia 21-10.

  • Elyse Cortinas scored 2 points.
  • Melanie Suarez had 4 points.
  • Mia Rollins scored 9 points.
  • Evelyn Barco scored 4 points.
  • Mikayla Mata added 2 points.

8th Grade A Team – The 8th Grade girls sit undefeated with a record of 6-0, and last night was a hard-fought victory. The girls were tired. Coming back from time off and playing the first day back is never easy. The girls came out strong in the first quarter and went on a 10-0 run. In the second quarter, the girls were a bit slower and allowed Natalia to score a few points, ending the half 17-7. The third and fourth quarters were also slower but the girls pulled off a great victory, winning 27-14.

  • Genesis Martinez scored 6 points.
  • Cayleigh Smith scored 2 points.
  • Zabella Garcia had 5 points.
  • Aliana Cardenas led the team with 12 points.
  • Lillian Evans also added 2 points.
