This past Friday, January 20, 2023, the Pirates went into one of the most hostile game environments in the state of Texas and squeezed out a tough victory 72-65 over Crystal City. The Pirates found themselves in foul trouble most of the first half; but Seniors Jordan Balderaz, Eli Vega, Jaelen Guevara, and Malaka Castro kept calm and led the team to a victory. It was a great team win in a tough environment.
Last night, January 24, 2023, the Pirates took on Rival Natalia Mustangs and won 110-27. From tipoff, the Mustangs found themselves out matched and could not handle the defensive pressure of the Pirates. The Pirates had 23 steals with an additional 19 deflections in 32 minutes. Offensively, the night belonged to Senior Jaelen Guevara! The kid had 43 points to reach the career milestone of 1000 points. Jaelen had a setback a month ago with a dislocated elbow, but even with the injury, he continued to rehab and work every day to reach this moment last night. Jaelen has worked his tail off his entire High School career and last night's moment was a true testimony to the work he has put in. The Pirates will face the Cotulla Cowboys this Friday, January 27, 2023, in Cotulla with a 7:45 pm tipoff. Hope to see you there!

The Pirates also cracked the top ten in the state rankings and are now ranked #9 in the State. Way to go.
