3-20-2023 Varsity Softball Recap vs Wiberly and Luling

On Friday, March 10, 2023, the Varsity softball team travelled to Wimberly and shut them out in 5 innings. Moriah Gomez earned the pitching shutout while Natalie Pacheco assisted her behind the plate. Other defensive highlights were huge catches in the outfield by Giselle Esparza and Alyssa Montalvo. They covered a lot of ground and made beautiful catches. The infield executed well and completed routine outs that helped lead to this shutout. 

The offense secured the win with a huge first inning, scoring 7 runs from 6 hits. Earning hits for the Pirates were Moriah Gomez with a triple and a single, a double by Elysa Aleman and singles by Alyssa Montalvo, Danica Martinez, and Addison Criado.  

In total, the Lady Pirates earned 11 hits, 12 runs, 15 putouts, and only 2 errors.  

On Tuesday during Spring Break, March 14, 2023, the Varsity team travelled to Luling to win the longest game of our season, 3 hours and 14 minutes, with a final score of 17-9.   

Moriah Gomez started the game, scoring with a homerun over left field. Defensively, one error was committed and at the end of the second inning, the score was 4-1.    

The third inning started with Alyssa Montalvo hitting a double to centerfield. The girls capitalized on Luling’s errors and ended the inning with a lead of 7-1.  

Again, Montalvo started the fourth inning with another double, then a hit by pitch and 2 walks loaded the bases. Anissa Perez hit a double, scoring 3, followed by Calyssa Sevier, grounding out to 1st, allowing Perez to score. Luling was able to put 2 more runs on board, making it 12-3.  

The fifth and sixth innings were unproductive. A lack of focus allowed Luling to narrow the lead to 12-9 in the bottom of the sixth.3-20-2023   

After a little talk, the girls regained their focus and put up 5 runs in the 7th inning and defensively went 3 up 3 down, ending with a score of 17-9.  

In total, the Pirates earned 7 hits, 17 runs, 21 putouts, and 8 errors.    

The girls ended the preseason with a record of 12-8.
