Our golf season officially ended yesterday, April 26, 2023, in Kerrville, TX. Khye Stewart competed in the Regional Golf Tournament and made Lytle proud. He finished with a 2-day total of 178. The Region advances 3 teams and 3 individuals (not on any of the qualifying teams). Khye finished with the 7th best score among the non-qualifying teams. After 10 hours and 178 strokes of golf, what stood out to me the most was that on the 17th hole of his first round he carded a maximum 9. At that time, he was having a very good round and the max 9 was heartbreaking. Most golfers huff and puff back to their bag and storm to the next tee. Instead of letting the obvious frustration of a good round get away, he stayed on the green, grabbed the flag, and complimented his opponent on a good hole. It was on that hole that the opponent overtook him in the standings. I am so proud of his composure and respect for the game. Kudos to Khye and more importantly, his parents for raising a gentleman. Hudson Mask, Regional alternate, went with us and was a huge help during the practice round and kept Khye focused when things got tough. On Tuesday we got to see 2020 alum John Martinez compete in his conference tournament. John is on the Schreiner University golf team.
Until the fall season, so long from the links. We are always looking for potential golfers, so if you hear of any interest, any age, please let me know. We can always use equipment (balls, clubs, bags, etc.). I’ll go pick them up if necessary.
