Congratulations to the Lady Pirate Track athletes for finishing as District 27/28 Area Runner-ups, April 19, 2023. Especially for Samantha Mujica, Marissa Lopez and Moriah Gomez who each had a huge day as they either set Personal or School Records.  

It was almost exactly one year to the day when these three ladies were making a move on the eventual State 800m Champion at this Meet when they got too close to each other and tripped themselves. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've had to deal with. All three got back up and finished the race, but it started a snowball effect after that, and we didn't really recover until the 4x400m Relay.  

However, this year they had none of that. Moriah was crowned District Champion in the 800m (New School Record), 1600m and helped anchor the 4x400m Relay for a New School Record. Marissa set Personal Records in the 400m and 800m and was part of the 4x400m Relay. Samantha set Personal Records in the 3200m and 1600m. I was so happy that they were able to come back after a year to redeem themselves. The lessons that they learned from that experience will make them better young women for it.  

We had great performances by all of our girls as six of the eight will continue on to Regionals in Seguin next Friday and Saturday. They are hoping they can finish in the top 2 in their respective events to advance to State. I am so proud of all the girls as they continue to push and compete against some of the state's best. 

These girls must try and finish 1st or 2nd in their respective event next week in Seguin to advance to State in Austin on May 11, 2023. Below are the events they will be participating in and their current seed going into Regionals next week. Prelims will be run on Friday, April 28, 2023 and they must finish in the top 8 to make to finals on Saturday.
