It's been a great week for Lytle Volleyball. We took on Utopia this on September 22, 2023, as one last warm-up before we really get into District play. The Varsity beat them in 4 sets. Utopia has improved since last year and had a competitive team, taking one set from us before we put them away in the end 3-1, winning the match. All of this was in preparation for the game that was to come.
Hondo looked like they would be number one in our District based on their preseason schedule and the way everyone had played the previous season. Well, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, we knocked them off the top spot and are looking to take that spot for ourselves if we can continue to come hard at our opponents. We beat them in 5 hard-fought sets, ultimately winning 3-2. This was a blow to a Hondo team that did not expect us to produce the way we did. Our big middle, Mia Navarro, shut down their big middle, who killed us last season. Lily Evans shut down their other middle hitter and put their pin hitters on notice that they needed to find a way around her. Lola Patino and Frankie Scotello played great defense, digging up balls that we previously couldn't dig. Amelia Martinez was a force, hitting from the back row. Calyssa Sevier put the ball down on the floor again and again. The girls played hard, played together and finally put all the pieces together right when we needed them to. We couldn't have beaten Hondo at a better time. We are putting the District on notice that we are a force to be reckoned with! Watch out Lytle while we make our way to the top of the District in volleyball this season!
