Two Saturdays ago on September 30, 2023, the Pirate Band competed in a double-header competition. First at the Roughrider Competition at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, and second at the Hill Country Marching Festival at Fredericksburg High School. While the day was exhausting, the students learned the level of hard work and exhaustion that goes into performing twice in one day – like when you make Finals at Area! Though the results weren’t exactly as we dreamed they would be, we all learned quite a bit that day, earning 4th place overall at both competitions. The sting of a 4th place finish at Roughrider burned even deeper when we found out that 2nd and 3rd place were only 1 point above 4th place.
Then, this past weekend the Pirate Band competed at the God’s Country Marching Festival at Hondo High School, which is our site for UIL Region Marching Competition. The students were fueled all week by the knowledge that they had come so close to earning a medal the week prior; and they worked tirelessly to improve upon what the judges pointed out. Their efforts proved fruitful when they took the field Saturday night against stiff competition, where the band earned: Best Color Guard, Best Marching, and overall…1st PLACE 3A BAND!
Our Pirate Band has put in some incredible work this season, and has proved that Little Things turn into Big Things, Details Matter, We are Great, We are Lytle, We are Family, and We are Pirates! If you haven’t gotten a chance to come see the band perform, it’s not too late! The Pirate Band will perform at UIL Region Marching Competition on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Hondo High School, at 8:45pm. As usual, our kids would LOVE to see a “Sea of Pirates” in the stands cheering us on as we attempt to earn our 7th consecutive 1st division rating at UIL Marching!
