Last night, January 15th, the JV boys' basketball team traveled to Natalia to face the Mustangs in our second district game of the season. After getting off to a great start we struggled defensively and discipline wise in the 2nd and 3rdquarters thus I had to turn to my bench to try and give us a spark. These boys did just that and I was extremely proud of their effort as they played the majority of the second half and led us to a 46-28 victory.
After almost a month off due to the winter break, the Lytle 8th Grade Boys were back in action on Monday night, January 14th, as they opened the second round of district play hosting the Jourdantan little Indians. The B team boys started out the night with a great game. It was close at halftime, but the boys' defense picked up and ended up with a 12-point victory winning 22-10 to remain undefeated.
This past Friday, January 11th, the Pirates hosted the Cotulla Cowboys and the atmosphere was electric after the JV riled up the Cotulla crowd with a thrilling victory. The tone was now set for the varsity game. The boys knew that this game would not be a walk in the park. It was time to show the district who the real Pirates are this season and why we are state ranked.
Friday, January 11th, in a very competitive and hostile environment your JV boys' basketball team battled back from a 9-point deficit to beat the Cowboys of Cotulla. With a great 4th quarter defense, we outscored the Cowboys by 17 points and secured a 70-56 runaway win.
