3-24-2022 2022 College and Career Fair at Lytle High School
Right before Spring Break, 400+ students at Lytle High School were given an important experience and many choices to consider for their future. Students in grades 9-12 met with college and university representatives to learn about programs offered at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas Lutheran University, Palo Alto College, the TRIO Upward Bound Palo Alto Program, South Texas Vo-Tech Institute and Lincoln Tech. Students also visited with potential employers from HEB, San Antonio Parks and Recreation, Bailey Christian Studios, U.S. Border Patrol, San Antonio Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff's Department. (Some were even able to apply for jobs!) Texas Workforce Commission representatives also shared valuable insight, resources and tools for job hunting. Military recruiters from the Army, Army National Guard, Marine Corps and Navy drew interest from quite a few students, as well. A bit of fun and challenge added to the event, as students were guided to visit as many booths as possible to complete a BINGO scavenger hunt activity.
Abigale Parker, Lytle College and Career Readiness Counselor says, "Our students got so much out of this experience that we're already looking at having a bigger event next year, with more visitors coming to Lytle High School to engage with our students. They're not too young to meet the people who can offer them opportunities after high school. Our guests at this fair can all help students make decisions about their futures and guide them to take steps now to make their future dreams a reality." Ms. Parker was thankful for teacher support in encouraging so many students to attend the fair and for High School Counselor Karen Hernandez' help in making the day a reality.
