This past Friday, February 4th, your varsity boys hosted the Natalia Mustangs and won 102-53. The boys got off to a hot start with Jorge Holguin leading the way by hitting 6 of 7 three-pointers in the first half and hitting the 1000 career point milestone. I am so proud of this young man and everything he has accomplished this year. Jorge is always one of the last boys to leave the gym and his hard work has paid off. He led all scorers with 34 points.
As a team, the win put the 2018-2019 Pirates in the record books with a school record of 25 wins during a season. As the buzzer went off on Friday, I reflected on far we have come in the last three seasons. Ten out the 15 boys on this year's varsity roster were on the same team that was 2-27 a few seasons ago now 25-1 and state-ranked. It's been a true blessing to be Pirate over the last few years.
Finally, I would like to say thank you to Frank Hernandez and Kim Ortegon for being with me since day 1 when I arrived on campus to take over the program. Their loyalty and hard work have been a huge part of this turnaround. I cannot say thank you enough to them for all the hours they have put in with me over the last three seasons.
